Heritage: George Town's original coat of arms

Yes, it's confirmed. This was the original coat of arms adopted by the Municipality of George Town on 4 Sep 1953. When George Town's status was elevated on 1 Jan 1957, this continued to be the coat of arms for the City of George Town.


"KNOW YE THEREFORE that We the said Garter, Clarenceux and Norroy and Ulster in pursuant of His Grace's Warrant and by virtue of the Letters Patent of Our several Offices to each of Us respectively granted do by these Presents grant and assign unto the COUNCIL OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF GEORGE TOWN, PENANG the Arms following that is to say:- BARRY WAVY OF EIGHT AZURE AND ARGENT A PLUME OF THREE OSTRICH FEATHERS PROPER TIED WITH A RIBAND OR A CHIEF EMBATTLED OF THE LAST And for the Crest On a Wreath of the Colours ISSUANT FROM A WREATH OF PALM VERT A LION PASSANT GUARDANT AZURE as the same are in the margin hereof more plainly depicted to be borne and used for ever hereafter by the Council of the Municipality of George Town, Penang on Seals, Shields or otherwise according to the Laws of Arms."
